As technology continues to evolve, the frequency and approach to Internet use is constantly changing. According to the Pew Research Center, 91 percent of teens, between the ages of 13 and 17 years old, access the Internet from their phones. From this total, about 73 percent of teens use smartphones. As a result of smartphones, many teens spend an increased amount of time staying connected online.
As of April 2015, a total of 88 percent of teens between the ages of 13 and 17 have access to their own phone. While 73 percent of teens own a smartphone, 15 percent have a "basic phone," and 12 percent have no phone. As these numbers continue to increase, it's important to reflect on the past and compare how teen cell phone ownership has grown since the beginning of the technological growth continuing to define the 2000's.
In accordance with these results, the use and creation of new apps has continued to multiply. Although Facebook continues to be the most frequently used site by teens of this age group, the Pew Research Center found that 71 percent of teens frequently use more than one social networking site.
